An evergreen Mediterranean bush, rarely becoming tree-like, with moderate growth up to 3–4m in height and width. The dark green, aromatic, alternate pinnate leaves are characteristic. In spring, small flowers appear in the leaf axils; female plants produce showy, spherical red fruits in autumn.
