A fast-growing evergreen bush, with rapid growth and compact habit, over 5m tall and 3m wide. Young bark is red, older silvery. In late-spring it produces small white bell-shaped flowers which are later followed by purplish fruits. Thrives in sun, well-drained soil, and coastal conditions, it bears both saltiness, typical of the marine winds of coastal regions, and the prolonged lack of water.
