A slow-growing evergreen reaching over 4m tall and wide, with banana-like stems and a deep root system. Glossy, lance-shaped leaves emerge from the base. In spring, large exotic inflorescences of white flowers in blackish-purple bracts appear, resembling a tropical bird’s head – hence “Giant Bird of Paradise.”
